Taking Over the... Day (one timetable at a time)

 

Every morning, our junior learners take turns reading the timetable and letting everyone know what's happening in the day - and if the teachers forget... no problem! There’s always someone to step in and remind us. It's a fun little routine we all look forward to.... if the "Pick me's" and "Can I read's?" are anything to go by!

From Page to Stage...

The learners enjoyed story time read by a peer today. We got to work on our reading skills while also entertaining our friends. And who doesn't feel better after a hardy bow and a round of applause?

Don't be Nosy!

 

The learners showed us that a paint brush isn't the only way we can paint. They had great fun using party hats and pom poms over their noses to decorate an apple.

 Easing back into our routine after a school holiday and a short week.

Hey Kids Spelling is Fun!

 

We just had to show off such excellent work this morning. These proud learners wrote their spelling words with no dot to dots today and their smiles have made the day bright even with the sun hiding from us today.

How are things at the office?

The beginning of the year could not have been off better start. The associates at Junior Class Inc. have showed hard work and dedication from the word go!

I'm the King (or Queen) of the world...

 

A quick walk for some fresh air ended up with an impromptu performance. A well-placed rock became our platform for imagination. Kings and queens and pirate ships are but a few doorways into the wonderful world of the imagination proving that the best adventures happen on a whim.

Brain Break Bonanza

 

Some of our learners are fast finishers and when they finish their work, there are several educational and fun activities for them to engage and interact with whilst waiting for their friends. It is wonderful to see the learners show such active involvement and partaking in their own preferred pursuits.

Peer Reading

Reading together with peers is always more enjoyable! The senior learners engaged with the speed words and encouraged their classmates to read the story aloud. Afterward, they facilitated a discussion by asking questions to deepen understanding and spark conversation.

Left and Right and Up and Down and Topsy Turvy

 

In Listening & Speaking, the Junior Class learners practiced following instructions in a fun game called River/Bank which we later adapted to include directional instructions to reinforce awareness of their left and rights. The learners thoroughly enjoyed this lesson and boy were we impressed with how well they could listen and follow the instructions even when we tried to catch them out... Well done everyone!

Let your fingers do the walking through the....

 

On Mondays we work on our fine motor skills in order to strengthen the muscles in our hands and learn control as our fingers work together to achieve a certain goal. For example, we use tweezers to practice our pincer grips and build the muscles in our fingers. This also allows us to practice recognising our colours and we are certainly getting better and better at that! We also have fun threading beads which helps us to learn patterns and sorting. As you can see by the concentration, focus and big smile, we definitely take pride in our work and also enjoy what we do.

Shared Learning and Teacher Helpers

 

Our Junior class learners are very lucky to have such wonderful "Big Sisters and Brothers" in the Senior class who are always willing to learn together by assisting them with their maths work. Both classes benefit from the shared experiences and we can see some future teachers in the making.

The recent addition of a Dress Up Corner to the Junior Class has brought about some delightful, hilarious and heart warming developments. Not only is it the most popular station during the school day, it is bringing about astonishing developments from the most unsuspecting learners:  children who should have no idea how to work an old dialing phone are doing so as if they are experts. And the quietest of the bunch is now a proper chatterbox when they are on the horn! Nice work Juniors!

 We make use of every opportunity to encourage and develop our learners' strengths and interests. One Senior Learner has shown a strong aptitude for working with computer hardware. Here he is stripping, cleaning and reassembling a computer that was going to be scrapped. With the guidance of his tutor , he is confident in his ability to restore it and set it up in the Junior Class, so that his peers can enjoy the gift of technology in their own classroom.

SARDA COUNTRY CHALLENGE

 

Today our riders participated in a special showcase arranged by their trainers at SARDA. Families and friends were also invited to see our riders in action. What followed was a heartening display of focus and skill. We were all blown away by the learns' expert handling of the course. Well done and thank you for your never ending care and teaching, our dear SARDA volunteers.
