Mighty Walkers Assemble!

 

The big walk finally arrived and thank goodness for the nice weather that wasn't too hot nor too cold which made up for all the miserable weather of previous years. It was so fun seeing how excited the kids were when they saw us marshalling with our bibs and flags. It was especially fun when we ended up blocking a whole corner of the common to grab that special pic (photo to come). It was a great event with soccer, basketball, netball, concerts and performances and of course hearing that one of our learners won our Mystery Box!  

We won Champagnat!

 

The first of our Champagnat Award winners for the term have finally rolled out! These awards are earned for working hard, being helpful and being kind to those around us... Well done to these learners who exhibited many of these wonderful traits throughout the week. Keep it up!

It's that BIG time of the year...

 

It's the Big Walk on Saturday! Look out for your teachers along the common, we'll be the ones shouting and waving our flags for the intrepid walkers... Thank you for all the contributions so far to our mystery box hamper and looking forward to showing the rest of the school how awesome our parents are and that we are the best classes in the school!

Pajama Day an SMJC outreach initiative

Our wonderful school had an outreach initiative today. Every learner contributed a small fee and wore their PJs which went towards a large collection for the towards the Leave Your Print Campaign - which is to raise money to upgrade poor toilet facilities and water access in under-resourced schools across South Africa.

A big thanks to all who contributed, you have made a difference and looked cute to boot!

Training Day saw our learners having fun with 'the beautiful game' and practising some drills... Messi, you better watch out... The SNU are coming for the title!

Quiz Night Cameos...

 




                                       

It was lovely to see so many of our families attend the SJMC quiz night on Friday and there were even a few lucky winners and a helper or two... It was a fun event indeed!

And Wave Your Flag...

 

We started our "Delicious Eats Around the World" Day with a fun song and a wave of our flags, getting everyone excited about the Soccer World Cup and the many countries taking part! We all know what our learners are really looking forward to today though...

Nkosi Sikelel' iAfrika...

 

Just like before every soccer game, we kicked off our day yesterday before our soccer drills with learning and singing our National Anthem. We were very impressed with how much the learners already knew!

Champagnat lives in us....

 

In the words of our school song, Marcellin Champagnat truly was a gift to the world and certainly to us as we try to follow his way and our Marist Values. The learners enjoyed their Champagnat day treats and the fun and games that came with it... Happy Champagnat Day!

Come one, come all to SJMC's Quiz Night on the 19th! Everyone is welcome to join us for an evening of brain-teasing questions, random facts you'll never need again and plenty of laughs along the way. With a variety of categories on offer, there's something for everyone - whether you're a walking encyclopedia or simply there for moral support.

And because thinking is hungry work, 🍕 pizza will be available to order via the Kari App for any hungry hippos or simply just to avoid a night of having to cook.

Round up your friends, sharpen those thinking caps and prepare to test the limits of your knowledge. Bragging rights are up for grabs!

Photography is not just a skill... it's a passion too and we love to see the enthusiasm and joy that taking a simple photo brings to our learners so we set a few of them a task: find something spectacular around our beautiful school grounds… and boy did they deliver. National Geographic couldn't have done it better as far as we're concerned. Such incredible talent!

This famous quote rings eternal especially on a day like today. We all took the time to appreciated books and book characters today. Did you?

Parent Connect Initiative

The transition to post-school life is a big step in the lives of our children. Parents often have many questions about what this pathway could look like. Every child is unique, and so is their journey. We know there is no one-size-fits-all solution but perhaps there are helpful pointers and tips that can be gleaned from the parents who are further down the road.

This week, we hosted a couple of parents whose children are now out of school and finding their way in the world. We heard their stories and got boat loads of inspiration and hope.

We would like to thank our parent body for the wonderful turnout last night. It was truly heartwarming to hear the stories and journeys shared by our past parents. Our moms spoke honestly and authentically about the obstacles they've faced and their ongoing efforts to find solutions that suit their children. Ali, our former student, was confident and proud as he shared about his first job, marriage and independence. Each speaker added great value to the evening.
