During an assortment of activities, we had a "Who can finish the puzzle the fastest?" as well as a "how quickly can I finish these handwriting cards?" challenge. The junior class tried very hard to complete their tasks, even undertaking a very challenging 48 piece puzzle. Although we might not have climbed that particular mountain "this time", we'll definitely keep tackling it again and again! We love the determination and "I can do it" attitude of our learners.
Our hands are not just tools we use for eating and holding things but are also symbols for working hard, spreading positivity and being creative. They are used as means of expression, connection and showing love. We decorated our hands in a unique way to exhibit the warmth we all spread to those around us! One of the many messages we encourage our learners to demonstrate is to keep letting your light shine bright!
After welcoming our new learner and wishing her well on her operation, we have many a helping hand ready to jump in and help transport her to and from the various spaces within the school. Our learners have made her feel welcome and she has become so much a part of our unit, truly it has felt as though she has been here all along!
On Mondays we work on our fine motor skills in order to strengthen the muscles in our hands and learn control as our fingers work together to achieve a certain goal. For example, we use tweezers to practice our pincer grips and build the muscles in our fingers. This also allows us to practice recognising our colours and we are certainly getting better and better at that! We also have fun threading beads which helps us to learn patterns and sorting. As you can see by the concentration, focus and big smile, we definitely take pride in our work and also enjoy what we do.
Today our u11 team played an ever ready u11 team from Pinelands North Primary. Although the match ended in defeat for the home team there was certainly a decisive effort from all the players, with fantastic defense and stunning team work from such young men.
Every day, when the noon day gun goes off somewhere else... we hear the clangs of a bell that tells us it's time to pray. One of the teachers and sometimes our older learners lead us through the Angelus prayer. The Angelus is a short prayer that forms part of the Catholic belief system and is a short pause in our day-to-day activities to reflect and connect with each other.
