18 April 1999, St Marcellin is canonized by Pope John Paul II


On April 18 1999,  John Paul II canonized Blessed Marcellin Champagnat as a saint . Saint Marcellin Champagnat worked tirelessly for the Christian education of the youth in France and the protection of their well-being. 

The significance of this day is in  the recognition of Fr Marcellin Champagnat as a saint by the Catholic Church. As part of the global Marist community we recognize and celebrate him and his dedication to the education of the youth as well as his commitment to the teachings of the Catholic Church. 

His legacy continues to inspire us to work towards the betterment of youth and community.
